History

Mountain Creek is a year round resort getaway, just an hour's drive from the George Washington Bridge. Situated in the beautiful Vernon Valley of Northern New Jersey, our resort is right in the middle of great family outdoor and indoor activities throughout the year. In the winter, we're a full-on ski, snowboard and snow tubing resort, with 46 trails, 11 lifts, a huge network of terrain parks, the regions only Superpipe, and world class lodging facilities. As winter changes to Spring, the Diablo Freeride downhill mountain biking park and the water park emerge from the snow-covered landscape to provide tons of fun and thrills. Autumn brings the brilliant foliage the region is known for, and offers great opportunities including hiking the Appalachian Trial, world class golf, apple picking, mountain biking and so much more. Our luxury resort lodging townhouses serve as the perfect home base for these and more activities year round.

Mountain Creek began as the Great Gorge Resort in the late 1960's, and evolved to become the Vernon Valley/Great Gorge Ski Area, with a unique summertime water and thrill park known as Action Park. In 1998, the property was acquired by the Vancouver based resort development corporation, Intrawest. After 6 years of investment and improvements, and a partnership with Palace Entertainment, which now operates the improved Mountain Creek Waterpark in the summer, Mountain Creek has established itself as an energetic resort that embraces year round outdoor activities and action sports, and plays host to major events that attract international talent and media (you may have noticed that Danny Kass, Salt Lake City Silver Medallist in men's half pipe, named Mountain Creek as his home resort). Over the coming years, the resort will undergo a stunning transformation, becoming a true world class destination resort with a base village unlike any other. The expertise that Intrawest cultivated through the creation of such beautiful resorts as Whistler-Blackcomb, B.C., Mont Tremblant, Quebec, and Copper Mountain in Colorado will be applied to our already exciting resort, the end result of which will be a resort experience that is nonexistent in this region.
