Media Advisory - Television Rights

Author: Shannon McSweeney

We are pleased you have decided to cover the 2006 Chevrolet US Snowboard Grand Prix at Mountain Creek. Our local broadcast affiliates and national media outlets are very important to us and we will endeavor to assist you in whatever ways we can to help you cover the event.

Domestic broadcast rights for the event have been assigned to NBC and OLN, which will be airing their coverage on Sunday, January 22 at 3 p.m. EST on NBC, and 5 p.m. on OLN.  NBC and OLN are exercising their right to broadcast exclusivity over the Saturday night finals, including news access, until their airing.

Knowing the importance of coverage, Mountain Creek and USSA have worked with NBC and OLN to permit access under the following provisions prior to NBC’s airing:

Non-rights holding broadcast television companies and websites will be permitted news access to the following:

January 19         10:00am – 2:00pm         Slopestyle practice

                        5:30am – 9:00pm          Halfpipe practice

January 20         10:00am – 3:00pm         Slopestyle qualifier

                        7:00pm – 8:25pm          Halfpipe finals

January 21         11:00am – 12:30pm       Slopestyle finals

            12:45 pm – 1:00pm        SCS Slednecks demo

6:15pm – 8:00pm          Fountains of Wayne concert / Slednecks demo

            8:00pm – 8:45pm          Olympic Announcement Ceremony/Fireworks

            9:00pm – 9:30pm          Press Conference

January 22         12:00pm – 1:30pm         Junior Jam

Up to 60 seconds of Friday competition highlights, Saturday slopestyle finals and the Junior Jam competition may be used in regularly-scheduled newscasts prior to NBC’s broadcast.

Up to 60 seconds of Saturday night’s final competition highlights may be used in regularly-scheduled newscasts following NBC’s broadcast.

There is no limitation on interviews, press conference footage and any other non-competition highlights, including evening entertainment.

These parameters apply to all television broadcast companies, web sites producing video packages or independent film companies filming for stock footage, regardless of network affiliation. All independent film companies need to contact Peter Glass with USSA (pglass@ussa.org) prior to filming.

Please understand that the rights-holder will have priority access to the venue, location and athletes. Any attempt to violate this priority could result in removal from the venue. Again, our goal is to assist our local affiliates in providing meaningful news coverage of this historic event while at the same time, respecting the broadcast rights of our domestic rights holder.

A Media Room with wireless internet, DSL and phone service has been set up for your convenience, which is located in the Vernon Base Area Cobblestone Village, adjacent to the main parking lot, where you will also pick up your credentials.  The Press Room can be reached directly at 973-864-8430.
