During the annual Quality in Business, Quality in Living Awards, held at Crystal Springs on April 20th, the Sussex County Chamber of Commerce awarded Mountain Creek the coveted Tourism Award, celebrating the resort’s success in hosting the Chevrolet U.S. Snowboard Grand Prix this winter.

The Tourism Award is given to the organization or agency whose cultural, agricultural, recreational, or entertainment programs and/or services are of such quality and reputation that they serve to attract tourists in and around Sussex County. The prestigious award is in recognition for a company’s continued investment in Sussex County and New Jersey’s tourism industry.

“Mountain Creek has helped to put the Sussex Skylands (Sussex County’s new brand) on the map,” stated Tammie Horsfield, President of the Sussex County Chamber of Commerce. “Because of the reputation and quality of this Intrawest resort, Sussex County was able to reap the benefits of bringing a whole new audience to our area.”

In its third year hosting the Grand Prix, and with the added excitement of the U.S. Olympic Halfpipe Team qualifier, Mountain Creek partnered with the New Jersey Commerce, Economic Growth and Tourism Commission to enhance and promote the event through their Cooperative Marketing Grant Program.

Sixteen halfpipe superstars and snowboardcross champions were named to the U.S. Olympic Snowboard Team at Mountain Creek on January 22, 2006. Over the course of three days, the event drew approximately 8000 spectators from across the country, over 2 million television viewers nationally, and garnered over 200 print articles including USA Today, The New York Times, NY Post, Christian Science Monitor and Sports Illustrated.

Charles Blier, Vice President and General Manager of Mountain Creek, and Greg Pack, Director of Mountain Operations, accepted the award on behalf of the resort. “Mountain Creek has now achieved national recognition for hosting this event. And moving closer to the home front, county officials and the expanded local business community are now also recognizing the legitimacy of our resort.” added Blier.
