Youth Ski League (YSL) - Ages 7-12

YSL training system will introduce and develop athletes following the US Ski team Alpine Training System curriculum to the extent terrain, athlete skills and schedule allow.  This program meets for 13 weeks every Saturday and Sunday.

YSL and YSL jr programs typically differ based on Biological Age (stage of physical development) and Training Age (number year of sport participation).  YSL Coaches will be reviewing athlete’s skill set and maturity levels during the first few weeks of training to finalize coach/racer/group alignment.

This exercise is to create efficiency within our coaching staff and assure our young athletes receive safe training that will open-up the most opportunity for them to grow. This also begins the Coach/Parent/Racer relationships and discussions early season.

YSL Junior

YSL Jr introduces our youngest participants to Mountain Creek Race Program. YSL Jr training days will incorporate more breaks during training than our YSL racers. Most skiing time will be on intermediate terrain, such that the athlete can learn/practice sound technique, and not learn defensive technique encouraged by steeper terrain.  Limited Focus on drill courses & skill/obstacle courses.  YSL Jr. athletes’ progress and improvement results in moving to YSL.

YSL

YSL is designed for those athletes who seek continued technical instruction in both free skiing and race training, the program is designed to prepare skiers for US Ski & Snowboard Programs.  YSL training days will be weekend only following US Ski Team Development Phase 2 and entry into Phase 3.  Minimum 50 percent coached free skiing with the remaining time focused on skills specific drills and gate training.  Gate training will be primarily on giant slalom, introduction into slalom, focus on drill courses & skill/obstacle courses.  SL with stubbies and/or cones and other imaginative type sets are utilized for increasing skillfulness.  Limited normal GS courses. YSL focuses on USSS Skills Quest Phase Phase 2 and entry into Phase 3 as conditions and skill level permits.

YSL Athletes compete in 2 races within the NJSRA mountain hosts.
